“…connect deeply with the world around you, not just the parts that seem comfortable or familiar… There’s such a performative aspect to the formation of ideas and opinions now, which is heavily a consequence of social media, and of bad choices our generations made. And I encourage kids all the time to challenge them, be willing to challenge that; which takes some courage, takes some honesty [and] some willingness to adapt… One of the great things you learn with art is the moral imagination: how you could actually take these flights of fancy and fantasy and who you are and who you want to be and how you see the world. And, how you can actually connect them, not in a performative way or to satisfy an agenda, but to satisfy yourself that you’re doing something [meaningful]… That takes some real listening, to yourself, and others, and honesty, so I always encourage people to take such opportunities…”
