under the surface, the world is luminous

Waterlight enchants us,

the fluent and translucent way it reveals

all that lives and moves in it.

Including our swimming, wading

or floating bodies, our glowing limbs.

Debajo de Mar en Calma

Under the Calm Sea

Underwater

lies a luminous world.

Where strands of light waver

through the green glassiness.

Where your skin softens and

glows. And all your limbs

move slowly as in a dream.

Below the surface,

tender currents caress

your body. Above, a warm

breath plays on your neck and

face, as you sweep half-open eyes

over the floating landscape.

a thought

Like the light inside the water,

we can bring our sight deeper

than just to the surface,

and behold other kinds of beauty

awaiting us there.

a QUESTION

When have you been captivated by the waterlight? As an adult or as a child? What were the sensations, the emotions, that arose then, or thereafter? Or are stirred whenever you recall the experiences.

a call to experience

Take quiet time to notice, more than passingly, the light playing on and through the water, when next you encounter any. From the basin of a fountain, to a mountain stream, to a marsh or ocean tidal pool. Maybe your own bath. And if you're immersed, how your limbs or another's look, glow, under the surface.
